Thanks to you for Labor's success in Election '09
Added November 11th, 2009
Hundreds of you and your fellow union members turned out to volunteer in the 2009 General Election earlier this month, and your work paid off.
Nine of the 11 candidates endorsed by the South Bay AFL-CIO Labor Council's Committee on Political Education (COPE) swept to victory in city council and school district races in Cupertino, Palo Alto and Sunnyvale.
In the Cupertino City Council race, Barry Chang ran a strong second for the three open seats. All three COPE-endorsed candidates running for the Cupertino Union School District board -- Anjali Kausar, Ben Liao and Gary McCue -- were successful in a contest for three spots. Gail Price and Nancy Shepherd finished 3-4 in the Palo Alto City Council race, where five seats were open. And in Sunnyvale, COPE’s three candidates all won: Tony Spitaleri was reelected mayor while Jim Griffith and Chris Moylan each defeated opponents for seats 2 and 3 on the city council.
